About me

Prince Kofi Asante Sefa-Boakye

Prince Kofi Asante Sefa-Boakye is an American born Ghanaian from San Diego, California. As an accomplished High-Level water polo player with 15 Years of experience nationally & abroad, Asante gracefully adds his talents as a musician, performer, teacher, and now Founder/President of Black Star Polo. His efforts as an athlete span from humble beginnings at Coronado High School, to collegiate competition at California Lutheran University, to international experience across Europe & Brazil. With unparalleled passion, Asante has been the first to bring Water Polo to Ghana and successfully create “Black Star Polo” in 2021. The ambition of BSP resides in providing aquatic resources & opportunity to African & African-American Communities. BSP is designed to inspire a larger representation for people throughout the Diaspora towards a lifestyle of Aquatic Health & Wellness. In our early stages, we are working to garner the appropriate financial backing to support the new emerging sport of Water Polo in Ghana. Sport is the ultimate tool that unites all and provides endless opportunity to all involved. Black Star Polo aims to do just that, now in the realm of Aquatics.
In 2018, Asante made the first donation & introduction of Water Polo to the free school of Awutu Winton Sr. High School in the central region of Ghana. He has since gone on to now form the first water polo League in Ghana with 7 teams, having the inaugural season launch January 15th 2022 at the University of Ghana in Accra.
Ghanaian water polo will serve as a catalyst to promote education in water safety, inspire admiration of aquatics across the diaspora, and encourage an everlasting bond of comradery through sport that can only be done through athletics.   Asante continues to foster the relationship and bridge the union with those who have a desire towards the growth of the sport of Water Polo. Through continued faith, support, & determination, the World will see Ghana representing on the main stage for Water Polo in the Olympics.
Although still very new, Water Polo has proven to be Ghana’s Fastest Growing Sport in the country. Much progress has been made, yet our grassroots efforts still are seeking donations and sponsorship to go to the next level. With your contribution, we will assuredly reach our goal.
It is with much gratitude that you have taken the time to read our story and history.
